The temptations of the holiday season don't have to mean a
bigger
waistline in the new year
and yet another resolution
to get in shape. With just a few
tricks and tips, you can
keep your weight in check and still
celebrate with
everyone.
Pre-Party DosWhile
you might be invited to more parties than usual, you
can do a
lot before you even arrive to keep yourself from
eating too
much.
The easiest way to keep your appetite in check
is to make
sure that you have eaten before you go. Have an
apple or a
large glass of water before you head out the door
and you'll
be better able to resist the high fat dessert tray.
At-the-Party!
Dos and Don'tsIf
you forget to eat something before
leaving home, try and
stay away from the food table at the
party and occupy
yourself chatting with people. Don't drink
alcohol as it is
high in calories. Stick to water or diet
sodas instead. Keep
you hands full so that you don't have room
to hold a plate.
And when you find you absolutely
have to eat, make a beeline
for the diet-friendly foods, the
vegetables and fruits.
Enjoy a good wholesome helping of these
first and then try
higher calorie goodies. In little
quantities, they won't
wreck your diet. And you will get to
enjoy everything and
live it up.
When
you're being served dinner, you can avoid eating too
much by
eating a small bit of everything and leaving half of
the meal
on the plate. While some are afraid that they
should eat to
compliment the host, you could always say that
you are just
too full to eat any more, but what you had was
delicious. Or
you could excuse any questions with an
explanation of wanting
to watch your weight. Everyone can
understand that.
When
you're at homeIf
you are entertaining at home
during the holidays, try and
cook low calorie foods. That way
you can eat everything.
And to stay off those extra
calories that just add up when
you sample your dishes for
taste, ask someone in the family
to do it instead. You will be
surprised how much they will
take to it!
You
might also want to freeze any cookies or other tempting
items
until you will be eating them for a meal or a
gathering. It's
a lot harder to eat something that's
frozen.
At
the end of it all, these dos and don'ts may even take a
couple
of inches off your waistline at the New Year. But if
they
don't, and you still weigh the same, you accomplished
what you
set out to do! now that calls for a party!
