We have all heard about the
importance of nutrition but
today more than ever, researchers
and doctors are
identifying more and more connections between
good health
and good nutrition. Even in 400 BC, the famous
Hippocrates
stated, "Let food be your medicine and medicine be
your
food." Sadly, in today's society with fast food, high
carbohydrates,
saturated fats, and processed foods, we see
approximately four
of every ten deaths in the United
States alone caused by heart
disease, cancer, diabetes, and
stroke, all related to the food
consumed.
Keep in mind that just as eating poor food
can have
devastating effects on the body eating good food can
lead
to good health. When coupled with exercise, reduced
stress,
no smoking, reduced alcohol consumption, and
limited exposure
to hazardous chemicals, diet can have
a huge impact on a
person's life. As an example, liver
problems can often be
corrected with diet. The same is
true with hardening of the
arteries. Not only can a good
diet slow the process down but
it can also stop it
completely.
In the U.S.
today, many women, and even men suffer from
Osteoporosis,
which is the thinning of bone. A diet with
lots of calcium as
well as vitamin A is an excellent way to
strengthen your
bones. Another problem many women suffer
from is menopause.
This condition can really make a woman's
life miserable and
it's not like a cold that is with you
for a week and then it's
over. Menopause symptoms can last
for a year or more. Night
sweats, day sweats, hot flashes,
depression, and weight gain,
are just a few of the symptoms
of menopause.
Good
nutrition and learning how to eat better has these
three key
things, variety, moderation, and balance. Even
too much of a
good thing can go bad after awhile, so
everything in
moderation. Good nutrition meats eating
a little bit of
everything, that includes fats,
carbohydrates, and proteins.
You also want to get a good
amount of vitamins and minerals
too. Of course, everyone
knows what happens if you eat too
much, weight gain.
If you want to learn how to eat a
more nutritious diet but
are not sure where to start, you
might consider talking to
a nutritionalist or dietician. These
people are educated
and trained to understand food and the way
in which it
relates to the body. You will find with good
nutrition,
you have more energy, can concentrate better, have
thicker
hair, stronger nails, sleep better, and overall feel
better.
